Excerpt from the Book
Preface:
“The conqueror and king in each one of us is the
knower of truth. Let the knower awaken in us
and drive the horses of the mind, emotions,
and physical body on the pathway which that
king has chosen.”
— George S. Arundale; Theosophist, Author
As I sit here with the intention of writing this, the introduction
to my first book, I’m keenly aware of the implications of the
title: Positive Thinking is for Sissies. In the past I’ve considered
myself to be, at times, a contrarian and at other times a
risk taker. Most times I am one who is not afraid to speak his
mind regardless of whether or not my mind is “politically correct.”
Therefore, my mind has not always been my best ally,
you follow? Over my lifetime I wonder just how many friends
I could’ve won over if I’d only kept my big mouth shut! Then
again, perhaps I haven’t really wanted friends who only
wanted my big mouth to say the things their ears only wanted
to hear.
This is my forewarning to audiences that I’m not a typical
motivational speaker. I’m more a transformational speaker
and coach. By definition, I’m more interested in getting
results and not so much vested in whether an audience or
client likes me or even agrees with what I have to say. In taking
this position, I’ve found that those who actually achieve
the results they seek after hearing me and allowing me to challenge
them, end up liking me after all. I’ve also found that it
affords me the luxury of being able to appease my mind and
my big mouth!
It is no accident that I’m a transformational coach. It fits my
authentic personality and allows me to seek and speak truth –
at least, the truth as I see it. By and large, most people appreciate
the truth, even if it smacks them upside the head. In fact,
I tend to attract the perfect clientele; those who are looking to
get smacked! Now, I don’t know if you’re holding this book
right now because you are one who is looking to get smacked,
if it’s because you want different results, or if it’s because the
book’s title pissed you off enough to buy it. If it’s the latter, be
assured that it is not my intention to piss you off. I fully realize
the popularity of the idea of “positive thinking” and I do
not discount its validity. But, I also recognize the wave of sissification
that has swept the culture of wannabe achievers and
success seekers! From my coach’s view of things, there is a
growing brotherhood and sisterhood of sissyhood! These brothers
and sisters represent the large majority who maintain their
status as wannabes and seekers indefinitely; never quite reaching
the destination they’re after. The question you need to ask is
this: Have I become sissified? Are you willing to look at yourself
square in the mirror in order to make powerful and profound
changes that will affect you permanently (the way of the warrior), or would you rather use tactics and strategies like positive
thinking to affect you temporarily (the way of the sissy)?
